The First Ever Giant 2.5 MW Wind Turbine Components Arrive in Indonesia at Port of Parepare
Sidrap — PT UPC Sidrap Bayu Energi is delighted to announce that the main components of the first utility scale wind farm project in Indonesia have arrived safely in Parepare, South Sulawesi. The Gamesa G114 2.5 MW nacelles and hubs were shipped from Spain to Indonesia by the specialized ship, BBC Congo, which docked at the Nusantara Port of Parepare on August 24th and will remain until August 28th.
The multipurpose heavy-lift vessel arrived in Parepare after traveling for 50 days from the Port of Bilbao in Spain. The BBC Congo sailed through the Middle East, the Indian Ocean and the Malacca Strait, before entering Indonesia waters and coming to Parepare. This is the ship’s first ever visit to Indonesia since it was built 7 years ago.
Fifteen nacelles and hubs worth US$ 20 million began unloading from the specialist vessel the morning of August 24th . They are being transported to the site at night using six specialized heavy-lift trucks imported to Parepare to undertake the task. Along with the main components, the BBC Congo also carried special tools for the wind turbine erection process.
For UPC Sidrap, this arrival is another great milestone further demonstrating UPC’s firm commitment to the Project and the renewable energy future of Indonesia. The arrival of the components marks the start of the erection phase with the first wind turbines to be erected by early next month in Mattirotasi Village and Lainungan Village in Sidrap Regency.
Dadan Suhendar, Engineering Manager for UPC Sidrap, said, “these components are the first ever utility scale nacelles and hubs in the nation, and this state of the art technology will be the pride for Sidrap and Parepare.”

UPC Director, Dacre Purchase praised all parties who have been working from the beginning of the project until the arrival of turbine components. He is excited that the project is entering the turbine erection phase.
