Indonesian President Joko Widodo inaugurated the Sidrap Wind Farm in 2018.

Since the President of the Republic of Indonesia inaugurated Sidrap Wind Farm 75 MW Project, “the First in Indonesia” has received more attention from the wider community. Local and national tourists come to Sidrap Wind Farm location to enjoy and capture natural phenomena and technology in the region.

The 75 MW Sidrap Wind Farm location offers an enchanting natural view that provides breath-taking natural scenery featuring the capture of renewable power generation with advanced technology. This increasing interest opens opportunities to build a center for natural tourism destinations with a focus on renewables energy technology.

South Sulawesi Province has a number of potential tourism destinations. However, based on provincial government data, there are no tourist destination objects in Sidenreng Rappang (Sidrap) Regency featured and promoted at the provincial level. The Sidrap Wind Farm and its strategic location have the potential to be developed as a key part of a wider roll-out of an emerging tourism network and associated emerging economic and social benefits.

The development as an innovative tourism center will bring many positive benefits for the local community, including proven multiplier effects. The promotion of Sidrap Wind Farm as a new tourist destination, tourism center, and the wind farm will integrate economic, environmental, and cultural sustainability for the local community, Sidrap Government, South Sulawesi Government, and to all Sidrap Wind Farm visitors, both domestic and international.

The construction of the Sidrap Wind Farm Tourism Centre will be implemented in two steps; Firstly, refinement of the Tourism Centre Concept Design and development of a DED (Detailed Engineering Design), partly completed in 2019.

Secondly the Construction of the Tourism Centre utilizing land controlled by local cattle business, PT BULS. The first phase of construction commenced on November 3, 2020, and this stage is in the form of cleaning and leveling out the tourism site. The work will be completed by laying of base course to prevent weather deterioration prior to the next phase of construction.

Once complete in 2022 the tourism center will be equipped with an Information Center / Visitor / Multi-Purpose Building as well as Stalls that sell local souvenirs and local products and will also provide stunning views that can be seen and capture through a selfie.

The build is part of a Tourism Master Plan, in preparation and focussed on the area around Sidrap Wind Farm for development as an integrated new tourist destination, especially eco-tourism with a focus on renewable energy.

The development of the new tourism areas is expected to synergize with Sidrap Regency and community-based development programs.
